Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players get confused. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in nearly all poker games.
A lower hand is more complex, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the entire pot.
Although it seems complicated initially, following a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an amazing collection of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high hand, along with many trying for the low hand.
