Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While participating in online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
