The History of Poker Money

Gaming chips have been manufactured from a varied range of materials in an almost endless variety of variations since the creation of betting and the need to track winnings. The most common materials employed at this time in the manufacture of current poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the oldest of the group, have been manufactured in America since the late 1800s.

Back in the 1800s, poker players appear to be using any tiny object with value you can imagine. Early poker players at times employed rough gold pieces as well as chips – chiefly made of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip designs began to enjoy a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with engraved slits to hold them neatly arranged with each other.

There is little or no doubt that poker has expanded steadily in appeal since its origin in the 1800s. With the huge increase of internet gaming and unique TV shows, community appeal in poker has accelerated more rapidly than ever before. Most folks are initially introduced to poker by TV showslike Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and many will gamble on their initial hands on the internet. Despite internet poker’s growth, not much competes with the feeling of shuffling heavy poker chips in your hands, tossing chips into the middle of a casino table, or creating high pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
